Medang Market Enlivens the 2026 Eid Holidays in the Borobudur and Prambanan Temple Areas
During the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday, InJourney Destination Management is presenting Pasar Medang at the Borobudur Temple Tourism Park and Prambanan Cultural Center. This authentic local culinary spot offers a relaxing spot while discovering traditional dishes from Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas.
Within the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park, there are no less than 20 culinary stalls offering food and drinks typical of Medang Market. These include Bantul's signature satay klathak, Semarang's signature tahu gimbal and tripe fried rice, Betawi's kerak telor (egg crust), Kotagede's signature gudeg and oseng mercon (fried spicy fish in coconut milk), Ngasem's signature leker (fried rice with tripe from Semarang), and Beringharjo's signature satay kronyos (spicy coconut milk).
A number of traditional drink tenants serve as thirst quenchers after walking around the Prambanan Temple Tourism Park area, including tangerine drink menus, rujak pelem (mango), es teler, and es dung-dung.
Acting President Director of InJourney Destination Management (IDM), Joel Siahaan, explained that Medang Market was specifically designed to improve services to visitors while providing a socio-economic impact for the surrounding community.
"The menu is generally traditional, such as gudeg, sate koyor, nasi gule, and dawet. The prices are also quite affordable, averaging around Rp 25.000 per portion. Drinks are certainly cheaper," said Joel Siahaan on Monday (March 23, 2026).
The choice of this traditional menu was not without reason. According to Joel, they wanted to align the culinary experience with the rich cultural atmosphere of the Prambanan area.
“We want people who come, perhaps from outside Java, to have experience "This is new. They can experience the culinary specialties of Central Java and Yogyakarta, as well as temple tours. So, they get both the culinary and the cultural experiences," he added.
One visitor from Sidoarjo, East Java, Tiur Bungaria Oktoberina Sinaga, said she stopped by Pasar Medang to satisfy her craving for Yogyakarta cuisine. She noted that the menu at Pasar Medang is diverse and representative of Central Javanese and Yogyakartan cuisine.
"I just miss it, because the last time I was in Yogyakarta was during school, on a study tour. I chose gudeg, iced orange juice, and tempeh mendoan. They were delicious," he said.
For tourists visiting the Prambanan Temple complex located on the border of Yogyakarta Special Region and Central Java, or Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Medang Market can be the right choice to sample the richness of local culinary specialties before continuing their homecoming or vacation trip.
